So, how do you all like my new site design?  I’m pretty proud of it myself!  I have a few new parts to add on to it, like a brand new headshot (coming this Fall, 2016), but, overall it’s pretty peachy keen.  I thought I would kick everything off with this engagement session of Paul and Tanya.  I’ve know Paul since…Junior High, High School marching band days – yup, I was proudly in my high school’s marching band.  We’ve reconnected over the last year and I was very honored when he asked if I would photograph his wedding to the lovely Tanya.  It was a pleasure to spend time with them both and get to know her better during our engagement session at Wheaton Farm in South Easton, Massachusetts.

I had been looking forward to Renee’s and Ryan’s wedding all year and BOY it didn’t disappoint.  The details were well considered from the dress that was designed after a Dr. Who companion’s gown to the groom’s wear based on Malcom Reynolds…there was just so much to look at!  Being Halloween, even the officiant and guests got in on the action as well. It was a pleasure to work with the couple and they were so much fun to hang with.  Plus, I finally learned how to properly eat an Australian hand pie…mmmmmm, delicious!  Take a look at all the photo-goodness…

Mary “Captain Crunch-her” and Matt “Burnt Reynolds” are a match made in roller derby heaven: Mary has skated for both Worcester Roller Derby (WoRD) and Boston Derby Dames and Matt for Mass Maelstrom.  It was this love of derby that not only brought them together, but bonded them as well.  It was kind of the foundation to their relationship…I’d say that’s a pretty darn good start, wouldn’t you?

I met Mary a few years ago at a pinup shoot, back when she was sporting more of a blond bombshell look (hey, why not re-visit that here?).  It was actually through her and WoRD I got my start in photographing roller derby.  We both knew as soon as Matt popped the question that I would do anything to make sure I captured *ALL* of the photo-goodness on their wedding day in her hometown.  It was such an intimate affair: they both were surrounded by family, friends and derby the whole time.  The reception was at Mary’s mom’s place – The Canal Restaurant – and the toasts were given with warmth and emotion, especially the one by Matt’s son.  It really was such a joy and honor to be included in the day.  Thank you again folks!

On occasion I have the GREAT opportunity to work with other photographer in the New England community; this June day I had the privilege of working with my good friend Jaime from Fotique.  All images shown here were photographed for her and her studio.

What’s not to love about an outdoor wedding in the beautiful woods of New Hampshire?  This collection of photo-goodness was done at the Cathedral of the Pines up in Rindge.  Everything about the event was picturesque, personal, and relaxed.  Plus, that car…how could you not be enamored with it?  All in all it was a pleasure, not only to work with the couple, but also to work with Jaime and to see how she creates her own gorgeous photography for her folks.

Renee and Ryan are so much fun to hang out with!  I can honestly say that I laugh constantly when the three of us are together.  We met at Craft My Wedding – one of my favorite wedding shows – and I knew when we spent some time together that it was a great fit.  From our common love of Joss Whedon (Ryan with Firefly and me with Buffy) and talk of the new Star Wars movie later this year, it has become a match made in heaven!  If the photo-goodness of their engagement session is any indication, their wedding this Halloween is going to be eye candy galore.  We started the day at Piers Park in East Boston and then moved on over to KO Catering and Pies (who will be catering Renee’s and Ryan’s event), where I received a brief tutorial on how to eat said hand pies when it comes to the day of their wedding.  October can’t come fast enough in some ways…

“Hi Sarah,

Folks talk about head shots and they often think it only applies to those in the corporate workforce.  That’s totally not true!  Over in my alter-ego’s world of education, a professional headshot has become more and more important.  Did you know that, because of copyright laws, you can’t scan and use the pictures taken on class picture day?  And let’s be honest: if one wants to be taken seriously in today’s competitive job market, a “selfie” or a cropped candid from last summer’s lawn party just isn’t going to cut it anymore.

A great head shot is a wise investment.  It shows your personality and says something about you; it captures your photo-goodness!  Think about where it can be useful:

  • Blogs for your classroom, school or career
  • Social media profiles
  • LinkedIn
  • Professional association memberships
  • Conference presentations

I would love to work with my fellow educators to make sure that you have the images you need to put forth a professional, yet personal presence for this upcoming school year.

There are times I like to observe other artists and their passions as they work on their craft.  So it is as I spent the day with Luca at Wolf Meadow Farm in Amesbury, Massachusetts, right next door to my sleepy little town of Merrimac.  What I love best about Luca and his partner Christina is how connected they see their craft is to the community around them; they source from local farms in West Newbury and make sure to educate and use only humane practices when creating their cheeses.

Wolf Meadow is now available at the newly opened Boston Public Market, one of the first of its kind, in addition to its store in Amesbury.  Please make sure to tell Luca and Christina I said “hello” when you stop by for some fresh mozzarella or ricotta.

Bekki and Alex are the most amazing couple!  They’re both so incredibly creative: she’s an art educator (just like my alter-ego) and both share a love of ceramics, not to mention a love of craft brewing.  Their choice of Bekki’s hometown of Lyme, New Hampshire for their personal and intimate ceremony and the Dartmouth Skiway for their reception was a great reflection upon who they were and what their relationship represented: love, friends and family.  Bekki and Alex incorporated so many personal touches (like Alex’s grandmother’s ring as Bekki’s “second” engagement ring and hops in the groomsmen’s boutonnieres to show their love of craft brews) that it was an abundance of photo-goodness for me to capture for them!  It really was a pleasure to work with the two of them and witness the love between not only the couple, but their families and friends as well…
